Surf City Centennial Root Beer

Surf City Centennial Root Beer is yet another brew that I received in trade with my root beer buddy in Ohio, Brad.   This brew is brought to you by BrewBakers in Huntington Beach, CA.

I was really looking forward to trying this one as I heard/read good things about it.  As a lot of folks have said, the head on this one is large and lasts forever.   It is flavored with natural and artificial flavors as well as vanilla.  It's sweetened with HFCS and Wisconsin honey.  My tastes however did not appreciate this as much as I hoped.  I encountered a very bland, not that sweet fizzy drink. I was looking for flavor and it did not deliver.  Maybe my bottle was off, but I really hated this one. I welcome another bottle to try though.

Fest Pecan Root Beer

Fest Pecan Root Beer (a.k.a. Papa Joe)is yet another brew that I received in trade with my root beer buddy in Ohio, Brad.  This brew is brought to you by the fine folks at Fest Cola in New Orleans, LA.

This is another brew that has an interesting color.  Pecan root beer? Very unique.  Although, it draws almost no head to it that I noticed.  The flavor is very distinctive -- the website indicates  praline and pecans notes to the profile. I originally thought they may have used molasses as a sweetener; however, it is sweetened with Louisiana cane sugar.  I'm sorry Papa Joe, I really wanted to like you but it just wasn't for me.  I'm sure others with a different palate will think differently, I am sure.

Silver Creek Blonde Root Beer

Silver Creek Blonde Root Beer is yet another brew that I received in trade with my root beer buddy in Ohio, Brad.  It is brought to you by the folks over at Silver Creek Brewing Company in Cedarburg, WI.

What a fascinating brew.  I love the unique color for a root beer.  It has a really nice size head to it (quite airy) and dissipates fast.  The aroma is nice.  It is sweetened with pure cane sugar and flavored with natural and artificial flavorings.  It is a tad on the sweet side but overall I quite liked it.

Seymour Beverage Root Beer

Seymour Beverages Root Beer is yet another brew that I received in trade with my root beer buddy in Ohio, Brad.   This brew is brought to you by Seymour Beverages in Seymour, WI.

A 7oz bottle?  Never seen that before.  They say good things come in small packages?  Well, in my opinion, it is probably accurate to say so.  This brew is not perfect in my books, but the flavor was there and perhaps it is a bit on the sweet side.  The head was almost non-existant.  For some strange reason though, I kind of enjoyed this one.

Tito's Old Fashioned Root Beer

Tito's Old Fashioned Root Beer is yet another brew that I received in trade with my root beer buddy in Ohio, Brad.  Tito's is brought to you by the folks over at Tito's Cantina Mexican Grill in Middletown, RI.

This brew had a decent sized head to it that fizzed away quite fast.  The aroma it exhibited when I poured it was very enticing.  It smelled like a real root beer and it definitely tasted like one.  It is sweetened with cane sugar and the flavor comes from an extract.  I thoroughly enjoyed this one but found it is a bit on the sweet side to give it a perfect score.

Sparky's Fresh Draft Root Beer

Sparky's Fresh Draft Root Beer is yet another brew that I received in trade with my root beer buddy in Ohio, Brad.   Sparky's is brought to you by Knox Brewing in Pacific Grove, CA.

I was really excited to try this one since my root beer friends, Brad and Anthony have rated this one quite high.  The head from my bottle was pretty non-existent.  It had very little carbonation and was quite flat.  The flavor of root beer was definitely there but the bite was very weak.  Knox doesn't reveal it's secret spices.   I think there was a problem with my bottle as I just couldn't imagine why my friends rated it so high.  I can sense via the taste that it could be great though.  I think I need to try another bottle.

Update:  I got a new bottle from Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  (Thanks to my friend DM for picking it up for me.)   This bottle was much better!  The root beer was not flat and I could appreciate the flavor more with the better carbonation.  I'm bumping this one up to a 9 / 10.

Hosmer Mountain Root Beer

Hosmer Mountain Root Beer is yet another brew that I received in trade with my root beer buddy in Ohio, Brad.  This brew is brought to you by the fine folks over at Hosmer Mountain Bottling Company in Willimantic, CT.

The head on this brew is very nice - about an 1" tall when poured but doesn't stay too long.  Hosmer is made with micro filtered naturally pure water but sweetened with high fructose corn syrup.  It contains artificial and natural flavors and with that comes a decent bite. Not perfect but really quite good.

Whistler Classic Soda Root Beer

Whistler Classic Soda Root Beer is yet another brew that I received in trade with my root beer buddy in Ohio, Brad.  Whistler is brought to you by the fine folks over at Whistler Bottling in Minneapolis, MN.

I'm not sure if it was just the bottle I received or if it's all bottles, but there was almost no head to this root beer at all.   The ingredients are really generic.  Sweetened with plain sugar and oh boy is it ever sweet.  Really too sweet for me I think.  It wasn't as bad as Pappy's Soda.
The flavor was masked by the sweetness but I could sense it was there.   Sorry Whistler, but I didn't like this one.

Cheers Root Beer

Cheers Root Beer is yet another brew that I received in trade with my root beer buddy in Ohio, Brad.  This brew is brought to you by Cheers Boston. It is based on the Cheers sitcom from the 1980s.

I found the head on this root beer to be average.  It had a nice bite to it.  It is sweetened with high fructose corn syrup though, which I usually don't care for.  Overall it is not bad, perhaps a bit sweet but the natural and artificial flavors round it out nicely.  I used to watch this show all the time and appreciated the nostalgic trip back in time.

Glacier Brewing Company Root Beer

Glacier Brewing Company Root Beer is another brew that I received in trade with my root beer buddy in Ohio, Brad.  It is brought to you by the good folks over at Glacier Brewing Company in Polson, MT.  I thought I was going to have to make a visit home and do a road trip from AB to get this one so many thanks to Brad! :)

This brew is very interesting.  It is sweetened with cane sugar and brown sugar. It is flavored with root beer extract, vanilla extract as well as sassafras and sarsaparilla extracts.  I was also surprised to learn it contained alcohol.  It definitely had a strong bite to it and the sweetness didn't overpower.  The head was decent initially but disappeared quickly.

Levis Root Beer

Levis Root Beer is another brew that I received in trade with my root beer buddy in Ohio, Brad. Levis is brought to you by Amazing Beverages in Wyncote, PA.

I don't know where to start with this one. It tastes like chemicals and it burned my throat and made me sick after drinking some of it.  I threw it out immediately.  It is flavored with artificial and natural flavorings.  It also says it is sweetened with cane sugar and/or HFCS. What? They don't know?  Furthermore, they added sucralose.  On the bottle it says "PHILLY'S FAVORITE SINCE 1895".    Hello? Sucralose wasn't around since 1895!  Maybe it was a great brew back then, but in the present it is a huge disappointment.

Sea Dog Root Beer

I was actually looking for this brew while on a trip out to Bar Harbor a few years ago, but I didn't end up finding it.   Thanks to Brad for sending me a bottle.  Sea Dog is brought to you by the Sea Dog Brewing Company with locations around Maine and Florida.

The head on this brew is quite nice.  It doesn't last long, but it was nice to see when I poured it in my favorite mug.  It's sweetened with cane sugar and the flavor is developed with wintergreen oil, anise, vanilla, other spices and herbs. It had a nice kick to it.  I really enjoyed the balance of the spices and the sweetness but it didn't take me to heaven.  Sea Dog - you are very close to getting a 10 from me.  I love the label. RIP Barney. :(
