Fireman's Brew Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Fireman's Brew Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON. Fireman's Brew is brought to you by Fireman's Brew Inc. in Canoga Park, CA.

This root beer has an o.k. head to it. It wasn't tall and stood at about 3/4".  It soon dissipated though.   It is sweetened with cane sugar and the flavor profile comes from natural flavors. I'm guessing wintergreen and vanilla.  It has a very nice bite to it as well.  I really enjoyed this root beer.  I thought the balance was almost perfect!

River City Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get River City Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  River City Root Beer is brought to you by Blue Dog Beverages in Sacramento, CA.

This root beer has a small head to it, about a 1/4 of an inch.  It was thick though and it tried to last.  This root beer is another one of those that includes Quillaia extract which gives it a fascinating flavour!  It is sweetened with cane sugar and the sweetness dominates this brew to the point where I felt the balance was not quite right.  I really enjoyed this one but not quite a perfect score.

Fitz's Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Fitz's Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  Fitz's Root Beer is brought to you by the folks over at Fitz's Bottling Company in St. Louis, MO.

The head on this root beer is very short and almost non-existent.  It didn't last long either.   The bite was average and the flavor profile consisted of vanilla  and natural flavors according to the label.  It is sweetened with cane sugar.  I found this root beer to be a bit on the sweet side and thought it could use a bit more kick to it.

Spring Grove Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Spring Grove Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  This brew is brought to you by the folks over at Spring Grove Soda Pop Inc. in Spring Grove, MN.

The head on this root beer is extremely tall and foamy.  It sticks around for you throughout as well. It is sweetened with pure cane sugar and corn syrup.  The flavor profile is built with artificials.  There really was no bite to this brew.  It was overly sweet in my opinion.  There is a Norwegian phrase on the label "Mange Tusen Takk" meaning many thanks.  I wish I could love you Spring Grove, but it was too sweet for me.

Barrel Brothers Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Barrel Brothers Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  This brew is brought to you by the folks over at Apple Beer Co. in Salt Lake City, UT.

This root beer has an amazing head to it - about 2" tall when I poured it.  It lasts forever as well.  It is sweetened with high fructose corn syrup.  The flavor profile is highlighted by the inclusion of quillaja extract (very interesting!) and pronounced natural vanilla.  This brew is very creamy. I thoroughly enjoyed this one.  Might be a bit on the sweet side, but overall, a very good root beer.

So Duh! Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get So Duh! Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.   So Duh! is brought to you by the folks over at Hermitage Brewing Company in San Jose, CA.

I really enjoyed this root beer.  The head on it was thick albeit a bit short and it tries to stick around for you throughout the whole duration.   It is sweetened with cane sugar and alfalfa honey.   It contains natural flavors as well as natural vanilla to make up its flavor profile.  I may have enjoyed it a bit more had it been a little bit less sweet and maybe add a bit more kick.   It is a very good brew though and I love the alfalfa honey.

Judge Wapner Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Judge Wapner Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  Judge Wapner is brought to you by Danny Ginsburg (The Soda Sommelier) and his fine folks at Real Soda in Gardena, CA.

The head on this one was small and dissipated quite fast.   It is sweetened with pure cane sugar.  It has a decent bite and the flavor profile I found is similar to Jack Black's Dead Red Root Beer.  Danny and his folks are doing a great job with their root beers!  This one is perhaps a bit too heavy on the sugar as I found it a bit too sweet to warrant a perfect score.

Dang! That's Good Root Beer

I received Dang! That's Good Root Beer from a colleague of mine, EL.  EL found it on a recent trip to the USA.  This brew is brought to you by the folks at Imperial Flavors Beverage in Milwaukee, WI.

Dang! produces a decent sized head that doesn't last too long but still decent.  It packs a wonderful bite and according to the label hosts natural and artificial flavors. I'm guessing vanilla and wintergreen were added.   I enjoyed this root beer but not quite as much as their Butterscotch version.

Old Town Root Beer Company Sarsparilla

I received Old Town Root Beer Company's Sarsaparilla from a colleague of mine, EL.  EL found it on a recent trip to the USA.  This brew is brought to you by the folks over at Old Town Root Beer Co. in Temecula, CA.

This brew doesn't create much of a head.  I guesstimate about a 1/4" if that and also it didn't stick around long.  This brew is sweetened with cane sugar and the flavor encompasses natural  and "other" flavors.  I wonder what that means. :)   I got a big taste of vanilla from this one. In fact, I think it overpowered it way too much.  No aftertaste but I didn't enjoy this one too much.

Sammi Rae Root Beer

I picked up Sammi Rae Root Beer last September when I was in Detroit, MI.  My friend Brad told me about this one and I had to try to find it.   I found it at a deli/cafe called Mudgies in Detroit.  Sammi Rae Root Beer is brewed by The Schmohz Brewing Company in Grand Rapids, MI (home of the Griffins!!)

This microbrew is a special one.  It was created to help families that are suffering with the possible loss of a family member. Portions of the proceeds of sales of this root beer are donated to Sammi Rae of Hope.   The head on this brew is small but tries to stick around.  The aroma is nice and the flavor is also quite balanced.  It is sweetened with sugar and maybe it cold use just a little less of it.  I enjoyed it thoroughly though.

Olde Brooklyn Root Beer

This brew was brought to me by my friend and colleague, V.P.  He found it this past winter down in Pennsylvania.  This brew is brought to you by White Rock Beverages based out of Whitestone, NY.

This root beer has quite the head to it and even though it isn't that thick, it tries to stick around for you.   The aromatics were nice. I got a really nice scent of "rootyness".  It is flavored with artificial and natural flavors and sweetened with pure cane sugar.  It was a bit on the sweet side though.

Flavor 8 Root Beer

Flavor 8  Root Beer is yet another brew that I received in trade with my root beer buddy in Ohio, Brad.  This brew is brought to you by the folks over at Flavor 8 Bottling LLC  in New London, WI. (website seems down at the moment)

This little 8oz bottle produced a small head that didn't last long.  The ingredients don't give much to it's personality though. They literally put "flavor" as an ingredient. :/    It did have  a nice flavor though.  I felt it was a bit too sweet for my taste.

Myers Avenue Red Root Beer

Myers Avenue Red Root Beer is yet another brew that I received in trade with my root beer buddy in Ohio, Brad. This brew is brought to you by Cripple Creek Brewing company in Naperville, IL. The website is down at the moment. Not sure what is going on there.

This brew has an amazing head to it.  It is large, thick and lasts forever!  The color is very cool -- reminds me of red beer for sure.  It is sweetened with high fructose corn sweetener and molasses. This root beer has an interesting flavor profile. The label says it contains artificial and natural flavors including cinnamon.  With each sip, I loved it more and more.. Eventually it came to the end when there was no more and I craved more.  Good sign!

Sno-Cap Root Beer

Sno-Cap Root Beer is yet another brew that I received in trade with my root beer buddy in Ohio, Brad.  This brew is brought to you by the folks over at Titletown Brewing Company in Green Bay, WI.

This root beer doesn't have much of a head to it.  It is sweetened with granulated sugar and high fructose corn syrup.  The flavors are a combination of natural and artificial flavors and also includes yucca extract.  There is a strong vanilla taste to this one as well.   I enjoyed this one to some extent.  It could of used a bit more kick in my opinion, but overall it's a pretty good brew.
