Big Ben's Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Big Ben's Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.   This root beer is brought to you by the folks over at Catawissa Bottling in Catawissa, PA.

Big Ben's doesn't produce much of a head when you pour it.  It's flavor profile is built using artificial and natural flavors including yucca extract and acacia.  It doesn't have much of a bite to it even though the flavors are there, they are overridden by the sweetness.  A bit on the sweet side.

Filbert's Draft Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Filbert's Draft Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  This root beer is brought to you by the folks over at Filbert Root Beer Company in Chicago, IL.

Although the head on this root beer dissipates quite quickly, I found it to be well balanced between the sweetness (pure cane sugar) and the flavor.  It has a significant bite and the flavor profile is built with natural and artificial flavorings.   I thoroughly enjoyed this one -- it was almost perfect.

AJ Stephans Butterscotch Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get AJ Stephans Butterscotch Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.   This root beer is brought to you by the folks at AJ Stephans Company in Fall River, MA.

As much as I liked their original root beer, this one missed the mark for me.  Like it's brother, this one didn't have much of a head to it and in addition is overpowered by the sweetness.  In fact, I think the butterscotch flavor could be of been more pronounced but all I got was sweet sweet sweet.  Sorry AJs.. Wish I could of liked this one as much as it's brother.

Foxon Park Draft Style Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Foxon Park Draft Style Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  This root beer is brought to you by the folks over at Foxon Park Beverages in East Haven, CT.

This root beer has about a 12-15 second head when poured.  It is sweetened with sugar and the flavor profile is built using natural and artificial flavors.   Unfortunately, I did not get to taste much of the flavor profile due to overwhelming sweetness.  I needed some salty snacks to go with it.

Cool Mountain Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Cool Mountain Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  This root beer is brought to you by the folks over at Cool Mountain Beverages in Des Plaines, IL.

I found Cool Mountain to be an average brew.  The head disappears immediately when it is poured.  There is a mild bite to it and the sweetness is definitely there from the pure cane sugar.   The flavor profile is built using natural and artificial flavors.

Zuberfizz Creamy Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Dog N Suds Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  Zuberfizz is brought to you by the folks over at Durango Soda Company Inc. in Durango, CO.  (website is down?)

This root beer doesn't pack much of a punch. It may have been my bottle that I drank since it seemed flat to me and there was no bite to it that I could feel not to mention the non-existent head.  It was sweet via the pure cane sugar and the flavor profile is built on natural and artificial flavors.  It was a bit below average.  Perhaps I'll try another bottle some day to confirm.

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Dog N Suds Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  Dog N Suds is brought to you by Dog N Suds Bottled Beverages in Norton Shores, MI.

This root beer has a head that lasts about 5 seconds.  It is sweetened with pure cane sugar and the flavor profile is built with artificial and natural flavorings.  I thought it had an average bite to it. It wasn't overpowering and may have been a bit on the sweeter side.  It is a decent root beer.

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Hosmer Mountain Sarsaparilla Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  This root beer is brought to you by the folks at Hosmer Soda.

This root beer has a nice head when poured (about 1" tall) but it doesn't last long.  It is sweetened with a mix of sugar and brown sugar.  The flavor profile is built using natural and artificial flavorings including extract of sarsaparilla root. It is creamy and smooth but there wasn't an aggressive bite to it.  I enjoyed it though and would have another in the future.

Rat Bastard Root Beer

"Quit being a dick - drink it!"
My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Rat Bastard Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  Rat Bastard is brought to you by the folks over at Real Soda in Gardena, CA.

Real Soda sure do know their root beer.  Rat Bastard is yet another one of their brews that just fascinates me.  The head is thick, dense and stands about 1/2" tall.  The flavor profile is incredible boasting ingredients such as American, Siberian and Korean ginseng, jasmine, clove, dong quai - angelica, skullcap, african capsicum, gingko biloba, gotu kola , gardenseal, echinacea, reishi and shitake and cordyceps! Holy moly ingredients!  It is sweetened with cane sugar and molasses.  It is very very good!

Chicago Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Chicago Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  This root beer is brought to you by the folks over at Chicago Root Beer in Chicago, IL.

This root beer has no head to it once you finish pouring it into your mug.  It is sweetened with pure cane sugar and flavored with artificial and natural flavors.   I taste star anise as one of the ingredients.   I longed for a bit more kick to this brew though and felt that it may be a bit on the sweet side.

This root beer packs a head that disappears immediately.  It is sweetened with pure cane sugar and is flavored with natural and artificial flavors.  I found it to be lacking a strong bite and overall it wasn't overly sweet.  I consider this an average brew.

Black Bear Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Black Bear Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  Black Bear Root Beer is brought to you by the folks at Black Bear Beverages.

At 6.3 FL OZ (187ml), this root beer is a small fry.  Perfect size for my bear pals; however, this one unfortunately may have missed the mark.  It is sweetened with high fructose corn syrup and the flavor profile is built with artificial and natural flavors.  It is too sweet , even for my bear pals -- they were highly disappointed since this one sported a really cool design.  I may have received an older bottle as I thought it was a bit flat as well.

Waialua Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Waialua Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  Waialua Root Beer is brought to you by the folks over at Waialua Soda Works in Waialua, HI.

The head on this root beer disappears pretty much as soon as you finish pouring it.  It is sweetened with a blend of cane sugar and Maui natural white cane sugar.  The flavor profile is built with natural flavor and Hawaiian vanilla extract.  I thought perhaps the vanilla was a bit overpowering the other flavors in this root beer.  It is indeed sweet and I was actually wondering at times if I was drinking a root beer.  Not overly fond of this one but it isn't terrible.

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Crater Lake Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  This root beer is brought to you by the folks over at Crater Lake Soda Company in Portland, Oregon.

This root beer has a very tiny head. It is a trooper though and will last about half the drinking experience then fizzles away.   It is sweetened with pure cane sugar and the flavour profile is built with natural and artificial flavors.  The bite is strong and not overpowering and balances well with the sweetness.  I may have gotten a small bit of aftertaste though from one of the ingredients; however, it definitely was an enjoyable brew!

Cannonball Root Beer

Cannonball Root Beer was sent to me via one of my co-worker's friends in Halifax, Nova Scotia.   Thanks a bunch TC and JP! Cannonball is brought to you by the folks over at Garrison Brewing Company in Halifax, NS.

This root beer is sublime. The head on this brew is about a 1/2" tall and is quite dense. Although the head disappears about half way through, you don't realize it because the bite and the flavor profile completely takes over your attention.    It is sweetened with pure cane sugar and the balance with Garrison's flavorings is incredible.  Garrison has hand crafted an excellent root beer in their kettles.  I am so glad to have finally tried it.  I just wished they capped it with their signature cannon bottle cap!

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get AJ Stephans Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.   This root beer is brought to you by the folks at AJ Stephans Company in Fall River, MA.

This root beer has no head to it whatsoever.  However, what it lacks in head it makes up for in bite and flavour.  This brew is sweetened with pure cane sugar and is perfectly balanced with the flavour profile they concocted.  The company listed "flavor" as the ingredient. :)  Not quite a perfect score for me though.

Robusto Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Robusto Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  This root beer is brought to you by the folks over at WIT Beverage Company.

This root beer doesn't have much of a head to it but what it lacks in head it makes up for in bite and flavor.  The flavor profile is made up of hints of vanilla, spearmint and Italian spices.  I believe that it's these spices that give this brew the kick that it has.  It is sweetened with cane sugar but it isn't overpowering.  I really enjoyed this root beer.

Death Valley Root Beer

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Death Valley Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  This root beer is brought to you by the folks over at Indian Wells Brewing Company in Inyokern, CA.

Death Valley root beer has an okay head to it - about a 3/4" inch tall and very thick.  It tends to last throughout your drinking experience as well.  It is sweetened with cane sugar and the flavor profile is built on "natural" flavors and real vanilla.  I believe there is some kind of wintergreen in the mix as well.  This brew has some bite to it as well. I definitely enjoyed this one.

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Avery's Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.   This root beer is brought to you by the folks at Avery's Beverages in New Britain, CT.

Avery's surprises you with a decent head right at the beginning but then it disappears on you in no time.  This root beer is sweetened with pure cane sugar and is flavored with artificial and natural flavorings.  I didn't notice that much of a kick to this one.  It fell a bit short for me on the bite and as for the flavor profile, I experienced a bit of an aftertaste on this one as well.

My friend and colleague, DM, helped get Olde Rhode Island Molasses Root Beer to me.  I ordered this one from the helpful and friendly folks at Soda Pop Central in Whitby, ON.  This brew is brought to you by the folks at Empire Bottling Works in Bristol, RI.

This is one really dark root beer!  I love the color to this one.  There was a tall head that disappeared quite fast but the aroma was there to keep me intrigued.  According to the label, the flavor profile is built on natural and/or artificial flavors.  It is sweetened with pure cane sugar.  I do sense the taste of molasses or something close to it.  I enjoyed this one thoroughly.

This root beer has a very short head to it and it doesn't last long either.  It is sweetened with cane sugar.  The flavor profile consists of both natural and artificial flavors.  I taste a real kick of vanilla in every sip.  I felt that this root beer was very very sweet.  Both the sweetness and mostly vanilla taste prevented me from enjoying this one.  It isn't bad though.
